Terms of Use
Last updated: 2025-10-08
1. Introduction
Welcome to Chamber.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Chamber software (“Software”), developed by Vaibhav Kaushal and others (collectively “Author”, or “Author(s)”). By using the Software, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Software.
2. Description of Service
Chamber is a client-side tool for creating encrypted file vaults (also referred to as “Chamberfile”) on your own device. User data is never uploaded to our servers unless specifically stated. The Software is cross-platform and may optionally connect to a server (“Backend”) for reporting telemetry data, account management and advertisements.
3. License & Usage Restrictions
Chamber is provided under a dual license:
- Open Source License: You may use Chamber for personal, non-commercial purposes under the GNU General Public License (version 3).
- Commercial Use: Any commercial usage of Chamber, including providing services to third parties, requires written permission.from the Author.
As such, you may not:
- Host Chamber as a service for others (e.g., SaaS) without permission.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Chamber for commercial gain without permission.
- Use the Software in violation of applicable laws.
4. User Responsibilities
You are solely responsible for maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and backup of your vault and any data inside it. You agree not to use the Software for illegal, harmful, or dangerous purposes.
5. Vault Identifier, Telemetry and display of Advertisements and Information
Each Vault (Chamberfile) contains a unique identifier called “Vault ID” which is used in conjunction with the user-provided password to create the key that is then used to encrypt user data. Another identifier called a “Vault Public ID” is generated completely out of the Vault ID by passing the Vault ID through a one-way hash function which makes it practically impossible to get the Vault ID from which it was derived. This Vault Public ID can be used to uniquely identify the Vault.
Telemetry APIs (as detailed in the Privacy Policy) use this Vault Public ID to identify the vault against which the telemetry data is sent to our servers. No vault contents or file data (including file names or their cryptographic hashes) are ever transmitted to us.
The Software may display advertisements or informational content fetched from our backend. These ads or content are not based on vault contents or file names.
6. Warranty Disclaimer
The Software is provided “as is” and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The Author disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement.
7. Limitation of Liability
Author(s) disclaim the responsibility arising from any unlawful usage of the Software. It is completely the user’s responsibility to ensure lawful usage of the Software.
The Author(s) make no representation that the use of this software complies with encryption or export laws in all jurisdictions. Users are responsible for determining whether local laws permit the use, distribution, or export of encryption software. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Author(s), maintainers, and contributors shall not be liable for any damages, losses, or claims arising from the use or misuse of this software, including any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The Software may be subject to encryption export control laws and regulations. You agree to comply with all applicable export laws and not to export, re-export, or use the software in violation of such laws or any applicable government restrictions.
The User is solely responsible for ensuring that the use of the Software complies with all applicable local, national, and international laws governing encryption, data storage, and information security. The Author(s), maintainers, and contributors of the Software assume no responsibility or liability for any misuse of the software or for any data encrypted or managed with it.
8. Governing Law & Modifications
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of India. We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Software after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
