Terms of Use
Last updated: 2025-10-02
1. Introduction
Welcome to Chamber.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Chamber software (“Software”), developed by Vaibhav Kaushal and others (collectively “Author”, or “Author(s)”). By using the Software, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Software.
2. Description of Service
Chamber is a tool for creating encrypted file vaults (also referred to as “Chamberfile”) on your own device. User data is never uploaded to our servers unless specifically stated. The Software is cross-platform and may optionally connect to a backend for reporting telemetry data, account management and advertisements.
3. License & Usage Restrictions
Chamber is provided under a dual license:
- Open Source License: You may use Chamber for personal, non-commercial purposes under the GNU Public License (version 3).
- Commercial Use: Any commercial usage of Chamber, including providing services to third parties, requires written permission and may require payment.
You may not:
- Host Chamber as a service for others (e.g., SaaS) without permission.
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Chamber for commercial gain without permission.
- Use the Software in violation of applicable laws of the lands concerned.
4. User Responsibilities
You are solely responsible for maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and backup of your vault and any data inside it. You agree not to use the Software for illegal, harmful, or dangerous purposes.
5. Vault Identifier and Telemetry
Each Vault (Chamberfile) contains a unique identifier called “Vault ID” which is used in conjunction with the user-provided password to create the key that is then used to encrypt user data. Another identifier called a “Vault Public ID” is generated out of the Vault ID by passing the Vault ID through a one-way hash function which makes it practically impossible to get the Vault ID from which it was derived. This Vault Public ID can be used to uniquely identify the Vault.
Telemetry APIs (as detailed in the Privacy Policy) use this Vault Public ID to identify the vault against which the telemetry data is sent to our servers. No vault contents or file data (including file names or their cryptographic hashes) are ever transmitted to us. You agree to collection of telemetry data by using the Software.
6. Advertisements and Information
The Software may display advertisements or informational content fetched from our backend servers.
These ads or content are not based on vault contents or file names.
7. Warranty Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
The Software is provided “as is” and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The Author disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Author shall not be liable for any damages arising out of or related to your use of the Software, including but not limited to data loss, service interruption, or misuse. Usage of the Software automatically implies that the user shall not use it for unlawful purposes, including but not limited to sharing pornographic content, causing or intending to cause or influence any kind of harm (including but not limited to financial, physical, psychological harm) to any party.
8. Governing Law & Modifications
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of India. We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Software after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new terms by default, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
