How features would trickle down
Chamber is a labor I undertook to make myself an easy-to-use encrypted vault system which I could use on any of the machines (laptops and desktops) I had around me and with my family members. Chamber, as of now is in a stable enough state to fulfil most of what I originally dreamt of.
While Chamber is a passion project and open in its current original form, there a higher tier/edition planned for Chamber which I do not plan to keep in the open. The upcoming edition would be called Chamber Advanced and would be closed source and possibly paid (at least in-kind, if not at-a-cost).
If someone were to tell me this for another tool, I would smell “freemium” version where the author just wants to make money and does not want to give any love and attention to the open source version. That is not my intention though. The plan I have is much simpler when it comes to Chamber’s Open vs Advanced editions and I call it “Feature Trickle” where I would love to keep Chamber Advanced ahead of the Open edition with a few features exclusive to the Advanced edition. However, as the Advanced edition progresses with features, some of those features will trickle down to the Open version.
From my own perspective, this gives me enough opportunity to materialize upon the Advanced features while not leaving the Open edition in an abandoned state either.
I hope for the best and I hope you will like what I have planned for the future as well!
